Lamp : Louis Poulsen

Designing pendant lamp in collaboration with Danish designbrand Louis Poulsen. How to design the perfect light for the multifunctional table in an apartment? Family, collective of youngsters or single flats - I was to design the lamp for it all.

For this collaboration it was important to me to figure out what i could give Louis Poulsen which they didn’t already have - yet i wanted them to still understand me and my different take on this task. In stead of trying to give them a new classic Scandinavian design, i wanted to push them in a new direction pointed towards a younger audience.

My project was inspired by the sunset, dusk and dawns which we know all around the world. But for me it is essential to my home in Denmark. As a Nordic country the sunsets last longer as we are closer to the North Pole than many other places.

I created a material which integrated the colors from the sunset, dusk and dawn in a translucent textile woven from primarily nylon. I chose a neutral LED light source of which would appear warmer when dimmed down, and seem more neutral when amplified.

The lamp gives the possibility for more functional cool light but invites you to interact and play with the colors. By gently pulling the textile, the textile will rotate letting the colored bands effect the lighting atmosphere slightly. And when the light is dimmed down, the lamp is made to be a cosey yet beautiful and shimmery little decorative design object.
